Networks of Collaboration and Interdisciplinarity in Scientific InstitutionsIn this presentation, I explore how to make Digital Humanities (DH) driven “Big Data” history more fruitful for collaborative historical research. Drawing on a recent research program regarding the history of the Max Planck Society, I will outline methodologies for constructing time-dependent networks and address the inherent challenges of this approach—specifically regarding historical interpretation, accessibility, and reproducibility. Finally, I will offer a preview of ongoing research into the history of nuclear fusion, examining it as a field uniquely shaped by the intersection of scientific progress, global politics, and diplomacy.

About the speakerMalte Vogl holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the Technical University of Berlin. As a postdoc, he has worked in several Max Planck Institutes, most notably the MPI for the History of Science. He is currently affiliated with the MPI of Geoanthropology.
