GENERAL INFORMATION

DigiHUBB (Transylvania Digital Humanities Centre, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca) invites submission of proposals for its second conference relating to the general theme of “Digital Humanities and Data Visualization.

Possible paper include, but are not limited to:

  • Cultural Heritage in Digital Humanitites
  • Data structuring, querying and visualization
  • 3D imaging & modelling
  • Digital restoration
  • Web-Mapping, Gis and Visualization of Geospatial Data
  • VR and AR technologies for the Digital Humanities
  • Visualization in art history

 

 

TYPES OF PROPOSALS

Presentations may include the following types:

  • Papers (abstract maximum 800 words)
  • Panels
  • Pre-conference workshops and tutorials (proposal maximum 1200 words)

 

All proposals should include relevant citations to sources in the appropriate literature. Citations are not to be included in the word count. Additionally, proposals that concentrate on a particular tool or digital resource should cite traditional as well as computer-based approaches to the problem.

 

 

Papers

Proposals for papers (abstract maximum: 800 words) should deal with substantial or completed research; report the development of significant new methodologies or digital resources; and present rigorous theoretical, speculative, or critical discussions. Individual papers will be allocated 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for questions.

Proposals relating to the development of new computing methodologies or digital resources should indicate how the methods are applied to research and/or teaching in the humanities and what their impact has been in formulating and addressing research questions. They should also include critical assessments of their application in the humanities as well as of the computing methodologies used.

 

Panels

Panels should focus on a single theme and be conceived as a 90-minute session of four to six speakers. Besides the paper abstracts, a short (200-300 words) presentation of the panel should be submitted by the organizer(s).

 

Pre-Conference Workshops

Workshops are normally either half-day or full-day intensive introductions to specific techniques, software packages or theoretical approaches with a small number of participants. Participants in pre-conference workshops will be expected to register for the full conference as well as pay a small additional fee. Proposals should provide the following information:

  • Title and brief description of the content or topic and its relevance to the digital humanities community (not more than 1500 words)
  • Intended length and format of the workshop
  • Full contact information for all tutorial instructors or workshop leaders, including a one-paragraph statement summarizing their research interests and areas of expertise;
  • Description of target audience and expected number of participants (based, if possible, on past experience); and
  • Special requirements for technical support.
  • Proposed budget (workshops are expected to be self-financing); and If the workshop is to have its own call for participation, a deadline and date for notification of acceptances.

The deadline for submitting papers and workshop proposals is 11:59pm GMT on 30 June 2019. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by 31 July 2019.

 

Papers presented at the conference will be published in Studia UBB Digitalia

 

LANGUAGE of the conference will be English.

 

 

 

CONFERENCE FEE

The conference fee is 100 euros, including conference materials, lunches and the conference dinner.

Bursaries: 10/12 bursary awards, in the form of free attendance to the conference and pre-conference workshops, will be available for students and early career researchers. Application should be sent along with the paper/pane proposal and include, besides the abstract, a brief CV emphasizing on your previous achievements and/or interest in digital humanities.

 

VENUE

The conference will take place at the Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca.
